How to Fight a Beetle Infestation

click beetle in house

Grain beetles are tiny brown insects with a brown or dark red color, elongated oval, flattened body, prominent eyes, and two segmented antennae. An identifiable feature of grain beetles is the six pointed projections on either side of the thorax. Brown grain beetles also have yellowish hairs on their wing covers.

Wireworms may remain larvae for one to six years before changing into adults, depending on their species. They appear segmented into two pieces, with the head and first pair of legs on one part and the wings and other two sets of legs on the second part. Most species of click beetles are brown or black, and some have red or yellow markings. Size also varies between species, with some being as small as a quarter of an inch long, and others reaching 2.5 inches. It’s reassuring to note that spider beetles, despite their intimidating appearance, don’t bite humans or pets.

Carpet Beetles (Anthrenus)

Turf grasses and ornamental plants can also be food sources for the growing wireworms. Click beetles are less likely to enter yards with reduced outdoor lighting. Turning off indoor lights may also keep the pests from gathering on the sides of buildings at night. To keep them from entering homes, repair holes in door and window screens and make sure that windows, doors, eaves, and chimneys seal tightly. Click beetles can be found all over the world and are known for the distinct clicking noise their bodies make. Most of the time these beetles are harmless, though the larvae can damage crops.

How to Prevent them Making Annoying Clicking Sound

Beetles can infest areas with food, habitats, entry points, light, moisture, and infested items. To solve the problem, first, figure out what kind of beetle it is. Then, close off any openings where they can get in and keep food stored away. In essence, while American Larder Beetles are not directly harmful, their feeding habits can cause significant inconvenience. Regular inspection, proper storage, and cleanliness are key to preventing and managing their infestations. Powderpost beetles are notorious wood-boring insects with a penchant for converting robust wood into a fine, flour-like powder.

Click Beetles typically live outdoors, but can find their way into a house if the conditions are right. Click Beetles are a type of beetle that can often be found in homes throughout the US. They are usually black or brown in colour and measure roughly an inch in length. Hi Trina, This is a beetle larva, and we believe it is a Wireworm, the larva of a Click Beetle. They are usually found in the soil where they eat insects, roots and seeds. We do not believe they are responsible for the bites on your horse which are much more likely to be caused by flies, especially Horse Flies.

Since they are attracted to light, rooms that keep nightlights on after dark are also good places to spot them. To identify click beetles, listen for snapping sounds and watch for jumping or flipping. If you’re discovering click beetles in your home, you don’t need to haul out the pesticides.

The soldier beetle’s body is shaped much like that of its firefly relatives; however, soldier beetles cannot light up like fireflies can. Click beetle larvae, commonly referred to as wireworms, are long, shiny, and have tough segmented bodies. Unlike mealworms (the larvae of a different beetle family), click beetle larvae have mouthparts that point straight forward. Wireworms dwell in soil, feeding on roots, stems, and seeds of plants. The common furniture beetle is an insect with a dark brown elongated body and ribbed and pitted appearance.

Click beetle in house, also known as Elateridae, are a family of beetles that have the ability to flip or “click” themselves into the air when threatened. Click beetles exhibit generations throughout their lifecycle, as adults mate and lay eggs to produce the next generation of beetles. This continuous cycle of metamorphosis ensures the survival and adaptation of the species to their environment. Click beetles, also known as snapping beetles, spring beetles, skipjacks, or alaus, are fascinating insects belonging to the family Elateridae. They get their name from the clicking mechanism they possess, which they primarily use as a defense to escape or startle potential predators1.

As nocturnal flying insects, click beetles navigate toward light. During the day, they seek refuge in dark locations such as under leaves or inside cracks and holes. When it gets dark, they become active and may decide to crawl inside a house rather than stay outside to feed.

Since every building or home is different, your Orkin Pro will design a unique beetle treatment program for your situation. Click beetles are occasional invaders that generally come inside homes by accident or to escape from cold weather. Using vacuums to remove them and sealing up the cracks, gaps, and holes they use to enter homes are the best ways to reduce click beetle problems. Insecticides should rarely be used and are not recommended in most cases. If you would like to increase your party size, you may also do that through the reservation service. If the reservation service won’t allow it, that means we do not have the room available for your increase, you can email to confirm.

Larder beetles are black or dark brown, oval-shaped insects. The tiny beetles are a brownish to black color with a tan or yellowish band across the wing covers. The small reddish-brown or brownish-black beetles tunnel into wood, weakening structures and creating tiny holes.

The color payoff can be intensified without making it look patchy or muddy. The Fenty Beauty Match Stix are at the top of Makeup by Disco's kit because she prefers a skin-like finish rather than a dewy finish. "These sticks maintain a longer-lasting contour that never picks up like in an area where we want to create shadows," she adds.

Whitfield prefers to draw contour over your foundation to add shape to your face (especially after a full-coverage, matte foundation). But Harris likes to underpaint, á la the Mary Phillips technique going viral on TikTok, which is a technique where you draw and blend your contour before foundation for a natural, blended look. Typically, you'll want your contour shade to have a cool, gray undertone if you have light-to-medium skin, or a neutral, warm-leaning undertone if your skin is very deep. Well, If you choose the wrong undertone, you might end up with an orange or ashy streak across your face.

Bronzer vs. contour: What's the difference?

I had no problem with the longevity as the Contour Wand stayed on perfectly all day. I use a few dots around the places I want to contour (mainly the hollows of my cheeks and around the hairline), which is often enough. Don’t be deterred by the mini size — this stick can be used up to 1000 times, so it will last a very long time. If you aren’t a fan of tropical scents you may want to skip this, though, because it does have a strong coconut scent. Due to its contents, this product cannot be shipped via our Priority Service or sent to Alaska, Hawaii, P.O.

This product created more of a "shadow" on my face, a subtle contour versus that harsh Instagram contour circa 2016, so you're after a more natural look, this wand delivers. While I would not wear this product alone, it definitely laid the groundwork for me to follow up with another powder contour product, which would make the overall contoured effect on my face that much stronger. I seriously have nothing bad to say about the formula, it does what it should do and gives the most natural-looking contour.

Apply the contour shade directly on top of your cheekbones rather than underneath to define the shape and “lift” of your face. Blending contour in the hollows of your cheekbones can draw your face down or end up looking muddy. It neither clung to nor accentuated dry spots and enlarged pores, and it didn’t settle into fine lines, either. His work has been seen on national television, in print and online magazines, on the red-carpet, and across major runways during New York Fashion week. When I swiped it along my cheekbone, I noticed that the consistency was creamier than I expected.

Best for Dry Skin

“Bronzer can technically create dimension on your skin, but it might look too warm and orange-y, depending on your skin tone,” she says. Similarly, the neutral and cool undertones of a contour stick likely won’t add that bronze-y look to your skin, but can potentially warm up certain undertones (like very-pink skin). This was the first contour stick I ever tried, because I, obviously, had limited funds as a wee high schooler. But despite its affordable price, it’s seriously good—so much so that even makeup artist Brandy Allen uses it.

contour stick charlotte tilbury

It's easy to use, and it gives a subtle contoured effect to the cheekbones, which is fantastic when doing makeup for a camera. Blending it out left behind a very subtle hint of color, so I added an extra layer. Then, I went ahead and contoured my forehead and chin — stopping in the middle of the face — to compare if there was a real difference in the buildable coverage. In a recent Instagram video, Tilbury explained that the wands, which offer various blush and highlight shades, are a “viral, sellout sensation,” for their ability to flatter and illuminate the complexion.

We rounded up the 19 best contour products in cream, powder, stick, and palette categories for you to choose from. Thanks to celebrities like Kim Kardashian, we've learned that contouring can alter your face, just by some shading. With the right contouring products, you can instantly help your face appear to be more three-dimensional, as New York City-based makeup artist Benjamin Puckey tells Allure.

We like that it comes in four shade combos, helping you achieve a more customized look. Iman Balagam is a freelance writer with over five years of experience covering the beauty industry. Her work has been featured in outlets like Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Byrdie, and Harper’s Bazaar.

With it, an experienced makeup wearer could do everything from spot-correct and bronze to highlight and contour. Our tester had a fun time experimenting with customization, swirling brushes across several of the deeper shades to create a hue that both bronzed and contoured in one go. Ahead, Allen, Dali, and Scibelli share their picks for the 10 best contour sticks to suit every skin tone and budget. Ingredients like jojoba seed oil, kaolin clay, and berryflux vita work to hydrate skin while removing any excess oil, too. The packaging is weighty and feels upscale, and we know this stick will last you quite a while. One of the issues we have found with this formula is that it doesn’t seem to last on the skin super long.

To find the best contour kits, we called in 23 popular kits to our PEOPLE Tested lab. We used both brushes and sponges to blend cream and powder formulas of contour and highlight shades. Throughout each step of the testing process, we rated key performance indicators of each product on a scale of 1 to 5 (worst to best). The lightweight skin-perfecting powder didn’t cling to dry patches, nor did it intensify the appearance of texture.

Compared to other contour sticks on our list, this one has a velvety finish (making it look a bit-more skin like). While we love the overall softer finish, it also lessens the staying power of the product, so be sure to top it off with some setting powder to ensure your contour lasts all day. Beloved by makeup professionals and consumers alike, Fenty Beauty continuously makes headlines for its innovative products — but our tried-and-true favorite has to be the Match Stix Contour Skinstick. The weightless, long-wear formula creates the perfect sculpt every time, but the smart design goes beyond the easy-to-blend formula.

The budget-friendly e.l.f. Cream Contour Kit Palette excelled here, leaving behind a healthy glow. We hand-picked the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation in our search for the best full-coverage foundation. With over 30 years experience, Charlotte Tilbury MBE is the world's number 1 makeup artist and British beauty entrepreneur. Charlotte established Charlotte Tilbury Beauty in 2013, which is now a record-breaking beauty brand that has won over 400 awards. Discover what makeup contouring is and how to contour with Charlotte Tilbury's top tips and video tutorial for contouring made easy.

Available in four color combos, they help create natural-looking sculpts, especially on deeper skin tones. This compact from Covergirl consists of three face shades and comes in three color combos for light to deep skin tones. It was pretty easy to blend all three shades, and the formulas didn’t dry down too quickly, leaving time to blend.

The Spirit of Stu Still Lives On Inside the Scream House Horror Reel Estate

Billy and Stu begin to stab each other to make themselves look like the victims of their scapegoat. Stu claims that after watching several horror films, they know how to frame and get away with murder. There are three different properties on the estate that guests can rent, including The Cottage and The Bassett Farmhouse.

Who killed each victim or did they help each other some of the time? How did they use Stu’s house to sneak around and not get caught until they wanted to? Those are the kind of questions that should make the new Scream even more fun on a second (and third) watch. Originally, a couple named John and Carolyn MacPhail built the estate in 1991. But sadly John passed away from a “brief illness” on March 6th at the age of 59. Matthew Lillard commented on their deaths in an on-set interview in the Behind the Scream documentary featured in The Ultimate Scream Collection box set.

The guests will also get the Scream franchise on DVD, Woodsboro High gear, and posters from the upcoming film. After months of silence, the Scream (2022) promotional train is finally underway. The film’s official Twitter page got fans in a frenzy when it opened membership for the Woodsboro Horror Film Club. The club quickly amassed thousands of fans who began posting their theories and Scream tattoos. Those numbers are the zip code for Tomales, CA, where Stu Macher’s house is in real life. There’s been a ton of speculation about how Stu’s house will play into this new film.

The famous 'Scream' house was briefly an Airbnb.

Stu's robe and other items that were related to him were included in the collection. Kirby and Mindy later had a brief discussion about Stu as they looked at the television set that Sidney had knocked onto him years earlier, with some doubt placed on his death. Billy's daughter, Sam Carpenter refers to Stu as his "friend" who "carved up a bunch of high school kids while wearing this Halloween ghost mask". (Technically, both also killed two adults each. But this was a broad generalization to explain to her boyfriend Richie, who poses as unfamiliar with the films rather than a Stab fanatic.).

But the home that will forever be the Scream house to you is called the Victorian Elegance. It goes for $1,500 per night and can host up to 16 guests with its spacious five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Scream’s epically bloody finale, which counts for a whopping 42 minutes of screen time, was comprised of one scene, Scene #118. Broken up into more than 20 different parts, the sequence, titled “People live, people die,” makes up the entire third act of the film. Pretty much every single area of the residence is featured, including the front exterior.

In the second film, it is revealed Stu and his partner, Billy Loomis became immortalized on-screen with the slasher franchise, Stab (1998—present), consisting of eight films (three based loosely on true events). The identity of the actor portraying him in the original Stab film is revealed to be Vince Vaughn. Later, it is Friday night, and Stu's party occurs at his house after classes are canceled and citywide curfew is placed. After the guests leave, following news of Principal Arthur Himbry's murder, Stu and Billy plan their confrontation against Sidney. That night, Billy calls Sidney at her house, using the Ghostface voice modifier, while Stu carries out an attack against her.

Aftermath of First Murder

Stu is the accomplice to Billy Loomis, assisting him in multiple murders. He was completely unaware of Billy's true motive to kill Maureen Prescott, and simply had no real motive for doing it other that for fun. Sidney Prescott later asked what his motive was, and he simply said, "Peer pressure. I'm far too sensitive".

stu macher house

The house is crammed with ’90s nostalgia, including VHS tapes of the four “Scream” movies and ’90s snack favorites like Jiffy Pop, according to Airbnb. On Oct. 27, 29 and 31, the house will welcome up to four guests who will get the real “Scream” experience — hopefully sans death. Later, actors for the original, cancelled Stab 3, Sarah Darling, Tom Prinze, Tyson Fox and Angelina Tyler are seen discussing Cotton's murder outside a Sunrise Studios set-version of Stu's house, 261 Turner Lane. In Scream 2 (1997 film), it is now the Spring of 1998, and approximately two years since Sidney killed Stu in self-defense.

Attendees include their other friends, Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, as well as Chad's girlfriend, Liv McKenzie along with many of their friends and peers from school, including Frances. Richie is able to lure Sam and Tara there by hiding Tara's inhaler causing them to go to Amber's to get a spare. After the events of the previous night, Police and new cast gather to get details on what happened during the night and earlier morning hours.

They observe him through the video camera secretly placed inside Stu's living room by Gale Weathers. However, Kenny forgets the 30-second delay, with Stu having already exited outside, and throat-slashes him. Stu makes a mockery of the murders, including a pun-joke, "Liver alone". On a serious note, after being questioned, he states, "I didn't kill anybody." This is seen as if he has something to defend. Billy glares at him, reminding him that Randy has only questioned Stu, not accused, saying "Nobody says you did".

Exactly how Stu's old house will factor in (beyond as the home of one of the possible Scream 5 victims) remains to be seen. Scream 5's plot also suggests that the new Ghostface (or Ghostfaces, plural, because history could repeat itself here) is killing people related to the former victims. It doesn't look like Stu's house from Scream is still an Airbnb, though. The house is situated on land that's part of what's called the Spring Hill Estate.

In the original Stab film (1998) based on his killing spree, he was portrayed by Vince Vaughn. Check out the Dead Meat Scream virtual tour for a brand new video exploring the home as they map out and explore the house. 3871 Tomales Petaluma Road in Tomales, California is currently estimated at a value of $3,360, 829. It features 4 bedrooms, 4 full baths, a formal dining room, a magnificent living room, custom-built library, straight grain woods throughout, 3 fireplaces and 2 wood-stoves.

Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers on the film. And Stu’s house also serves as the residence of Stella Davis (Dorian Brown Pham) in 2017’s Running Wild. Per the Spring Hill Estate website, Stu’s house is quite a hotbed for filming, with more than 15 productions lensed on the premises. The scenes of Himbry’s office, Sid’s bedroom and the school bathroom scene were all shot there. The fictional city was a composition of Santa Rosa, Glen Ellen, Sonoma and Healdsburg. Back in 2016, this website visited some of those locations and the article you can read here.

All guests will be responsible for their own travel to and from Northern California. The survivors, Sidney, Gale, Sam, Tara, Mindy and Chad are brought out of the house and medically checked and taken to the hospital. As dawn approaches, the news cast are gathered to report the previous evenings blood bath events mirroring the original massacre 25 years ago.

Stus House from "Scream"

stu macher house

The $2.8 million mansion with straight grain wood detailing is not in the fictional horror town of Woodsboro — in reality, it’s at the end of a lane in a 298-acre wedding venue in Tomales, California. The Archer Residences combines two existing buildings, The Archer and The Donahue – both of which formerly served as classroom and administrative offices for Suffolk University. The Archer building, the original Suffolk University School of Law, with its cast-concrete decorative panels, is evocative of the Classical Revival architectural style popular at its time of construction in the 1920s. The Donahue building was built in the 1960s and featured a Modernist brick design.

For Tatum’s death scene, it always seemed like someone would have seen her body. Visiting the home in person shows that the actual garage was located on the rear side of the property around the corner from the front door. Tatum’s death was in the original script so the natural layout of the house proved to be perfectly designed to not only be memorable but explainable inside the Screamverse. I was a little uncertain about the home’s provenance when I originally published this post. Thankfully, a fellow stalker named Mandy went on a deep dive into the nitty-gritty of the property’s history as well as that of its original owners and has filled in all the blanks! As Mandy discovered, though, virtually none of the listing’s reporting was correct.

Complete Guide to the Masks Used in Scream (

And if you're looking for something to do this Halloween, you can attend the two-day Halloween party being held at the house by Scream super fans Anthony Masi and Nate Ragon. They spent $22,000 to rent it out and tickets range from $200 to $1,750. At the $200 level you have general admissions, but for nearly $2,000 you can spend the night. Proving to be a legacy character all its own, the actual home can be found up a long country road at 3871 Tomales Petaluma Road in Tomales, California. Nestled on almost 300 acres, the Victorian-style abode was built back in 1990. It’s also been referred to as Elk Ranch due to a past owner who planned to raise elk on the sprawling property.

Although parts of Scream were shot on sets, other scenes are filmed in real buildings that were already standing prior to filming. Amber attempts to strangle Gale, but as Gale looks over and sees Sidney recovering, she headbutts Amber and kicks her into the stove. Amber's hand lands on one of the switches which turns it on before she falls over.

A horror movie fanatic, he went along with Billy's slasher film-like murder spree, the late-September 1996 Woodsboro Murders. The layout of the Scream house also proved to be the perfect death trap scenario that lends itself well to some of the big reveals. For instance, there’s a second staircase in the master bedroom allowing Billy to get upstairs before Sidney comes in just before he finally admits he’s the killer.

Thoughtful design attention has been given to the arrangement, texture, material, and color of the architectural features and The Archer’s relationship to its surroundings. Unique to Boston’s historic Beacon Hill neighborhood, the scope includes below-grade parking and a rooftop terrace. Stu's photograph alongside other Ghostface killers on Kirby and Wayne's investigation board.

After a couple of attacks, an argument breaks out and Amber finally reveals herself as a killer by shooting Liv and killing her. Amber runs outside and begs for Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers's help, but they catch the trap instantly and Amber shoots Gale and runs inside, getting back into the Ghostface costume. After the Principal of Woodsboro High, Arthur Himbry, announces that all classes are suspended and an early curfew is being enforced, Stu holds a party at the house while his parents are out. Aside from the fictional deaths of Tatum Riley and Kenny Jones, the house has seen two actual deaths — those of the original owners, Jack and Carolyn MacPhail.

During this timeframe, Stu's parents had been out of town, and his sister was presumably away with them or away at College, dependent on her age. The Macher parents bought, or built, the house years before the events of Scream (1996). They presumably raised both Stu Macher and his sister, Leslie, in the house. It was originally intended to be re-used as the climax of both the third film (as a set-piece). And the fourth film (with Kirby Reed as someone who owned the house, but with it later being renovated).

The tour, which you can see below, is led by both James and Chelsea from the Dead Meat channel. The two go over all of the iconic spots in the house that were shown in the classic movie, and it’s such a great treat for fans. After all, many movies have locations that are built with stages or were torn down after a certain amount of time. As such, it really is great to see that Stu Macher’s iconic house from Scream still stands and looks the way it did in 1996. Dewey will greet a guest and three of their pals with a virtual check-in.

The directing duo just departed from the bloody board game come-to-life in Ready or Not. That film follows Samara Weaving fighting for her life inside a Gothic Revival-style mansion owned by her new in-laws who have a very messed up wedding tradition. So, perhaps it’s fitting that their next film, Scream (2022), features Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) returning to the very house that tormented her in the original back in 1996. Coincidentally, shortly after I began penning this article, the Grim Cheaper texted me a link about a Halloween party taking place at Stu’s house on October 31st, hosted by the same guys who put on Scream Comes Home. Apparently, the homeowners have recently decided to move onto the premises and though the place will still be available periodically as a special event venue, this will be the last time it is opened up to Scream fans. And if you are interested in checking out more interior shots of Stu’s house, the Real to Reel website has some fabulous ones from the Scream Comes Home event.

According to iamnostalker.com, the filmmakers had to fix up the Father of the Bride house before they started shooting. The fence is also new since The Brady Bunch was filmed, added when the owner grew frustrated with rude people walking up and peering into her living room. The house made its debut in the second episode of The Brady Bunch and appeared in almost every one of the 115 episodes that ensued.

The reincarnation thriller Dead Again was directed by Kenneth Branagh and starred Emma Thompson. The film features several Los Angeles locations, but the climax was filmed at here, where the story's star Grace lives in the apartment complex. The Dead Again "house" is on High Tower Drive, off Camrose Drive west of Highland Avenue. The closest you can get by automobile to the Dead Again house is the dead-end street below.

Chelsea and David see owning The Moviehouse as a way to marry their passions for arts and community. While building on a long-established and beloved institution, they hope to add their fresh and unique perspective on film, entertainment, and nightlife to enhance the moviegoing experience. “It was born out of love, not business,” said Carol who lost Robert when he passed away in May of 2019 after battling brain cancer. The spirit of the couple’s ambition imbued itself throughout the titular building through the years. Still, it was The Moviehouse that remained both at the heart of the surrounding community as well as the passion of Carol and her beloved husband.

As a child, I visited Millerton, NY’s The Moviehouse and gaped at the clock tower perched on its peak like a homing beacon for those in search of an escape into the world of film. It was a treat for myself – a child of divorce – and for my parents, who were able to briefly trade custody schedules and middle-age stress for popcorn and fantasy. Those were happy times for me, logged in my nostalgic mind for time immemorial, but that says little of the decades of memory that came before my childhood wonderment. Elf Makeup gives you amazing quality options at an affordable price

charlotte tilbury dupe elf

Although I like to use the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter under makeup, I would never call it a true makeup primer (too slippery to hold onto your makeup). But if you do want a strong glow under your foundation—one that will also keep your makeup from sliding around—try this serum primer from Danessa Myricks. It has a grippy, almost tacky texture that keeps your foundation from creasing and slipping, while also giving your skin a major glassy radiance. Only bought a small Charlotte tilbury one and was glad I hadn’t wasted more money. “Now the only difference that I found is that IT has SPF 50 and ELF has SPF 30. A porch is usually covered and attached to any side of a house, whereas a patio is a freestanding, detached structure at the back of the house. “Covered porch” can mean anything from a porch, veranda, or lanai that is built into the side of the home to a covered patio or deck connected to the home as an extension. This sweet bungalow's ample porch is screened on one side so you can enjoy the breeze on the most buggy of days. There are special events throughout the year that you can attend including Christmas movie screenings with Street Food Cinema in December. One side of your house would have a porch with a view of sloping land, and there would almost certainly be serious problems with drainage. The lay of the land conflicts with the extension of the porch, making a wrap-around impossible. Your front porch is your home's best chance to make a good first impression. Inspired by the architectural styling of the Old South, Forest Glen will charm you instantly.

Open concept floor plans are more common for houses with wrap-around porches built in a modern style and in more than 2,000 square feet. Classic horizontal siding, an oversized 3-car garage, and a wraparound front porch topped with three gable dormers bring a great curb appeal to this single-story modern farmhouse.

The Hollyhock House was designed by Frank Llyod Wright for Aline Barnsdall though she quickly became disillusioned with the home and donated it to the city of LA. The hollyhock was Aline’s favorite flower and was used as a theme throughout the house. Even if you cannot tour the home it is visible from the park and the city views are wonderful as well. I recommend stopping by for at least a quick visit if you can. Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows.

You will find your favorite Caribbean cruise ports no matter what direction you go. Travel the Southern side and wander down the colorful streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico. On the Western, dive into the crystal clear waters of Grand Cayman or explore the ruins of Tulum when arrive in Cozumel. Eastern Caribbean cruises will bring you to St. Thomas, where you can take in stunning panoramic views of the island at Government Hill or to St. Maarten, where you can dine on some of the region's best cuisine.

Best 1-week cruise: 6, 7, or 8-night Caribbean cruise

Weeklong cruise itineraries are offered around the world, but some of the best itineraries for first-time cruisers leave from Florida ports and visit the Caribbean. While west coast cruisers may prefer a cruise from Seattle or Los Angeles, our top recommendation for others is to sail out of Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, or Miami. Many visitors to Nassau spend the day at an all-inclusive resort. ResortForADay.com offers day passes to popular resorts near the port, including RIU Palace, Margaritaville, and Baha Bay Waterpark.

After determining how many days you can cruise and where you want to depart from, you can immediately begin browsing Memorial Day cruises. For instance, if you live in Atlanta, you can fly or drive your family to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and take a 2 or 3-night cruise to family-friendly CocoCay private island. Another excellent choice would be the Bahamas, which is the most convenient option if you plan to cruise from Florida. The wide variety of ports within the islands of the Bahamas themselves make this a perfect destination for Memorial Day weekend cruises. Calling at Nassau allows you to explore the vibrant capital of the Bahamas, while wilder adventures await in Bimini, Paradise Island and beyond.

That music would come through the window and thump, keeping us awake. If you’re someone who heads to bed before midnight, be warned that the music can keep you up. Perhaps the most visible things are what you’ll see at the back of the ship even before you board. Royal Caribbean has created an entire outdoor area with an assortment of activities. It includes two waterslides, the Flowrider (surf simulator), Sky Pad (bungee trampoline), the climbing wall, and basketball court.

That said, booking a cruise at the last minute can also yield some unexpected savings — but only if the itinerary you’re interested in hasn’t sold out yet. Whether you're a couple, a family or a solo traveler, weekend cruises from Florida make a fabulous quick break full of sun and sand. Take memories to the max on short cruises to Perfect Day at CocoCay — our award-winning private destination in The Bahamas, where you can dial up the adventure with record-breaking ways to thrill and chill. Plus, savor craveworthy flavors onboard and ashore on your short cruise getaway. If you live in the Northeast, you'll be pleased to know that many of the best cruises for shorter itineraries also depart from the New York City area. Leaving from Bayonne's Cape Liberty Cruise Port, it's easy to cruise toward the paradisiacal shores of Bermuda, whose coral-rich beaches are prone to giving off a pink color.

Interior staterooms will almost always be the cheapest stateroom category available. In general, a weekend cruise in the cheapest stateroom category (interior) will cost between $700 and $1000 total for 2 adults. The cost of a balcony stateroom will be slightly higher, usually falling somewhere between $1000 and $1450.

This ship, which can hold 6,000+ passengers, has so much to see and do, you’ll be lucky if you can fit it all in on one sailing. Highlights include several performances of the Tony-winning musical Chicago, four pools and a zip line nine decks above the ship’s ground that spans 82 feet. Swim with stingrays in the turquoise waters of The Bahamas. Or brave the biggest wave pool in the Caribbean at our private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

6-night cruises, while shorter, can still offer a mix of exciting ports with relaxing sea days, and are offered to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. 3-night cruises can make a nice “sampling” of a cruise vacation. This severely limits options for weekend cruises, as any US port offering 2 and 3-night cruises must be able to travel to and from a secondary country in a short amount of time.

See towering mountains like Petit Piton in St. Lucia, explore the lush rainforests of Belize, or boost your adrenaline as you zip-line through the treetops of Labadee or Honduras. If calm, contemplative nature is more your thing, spend the day admiring cascading waterfalls in Jamaica and the vivid coral reefs of Bonaire, home to manta rays and parrot fish. Discover the magic with a Caribbean cruise.

To get there we took the ferry boat from the cruise port to Atlantis. It costs $4 per person and gives you a great view of the ships and a bit of local flair sailing on an old boat. We highly recommend using the ferry instead of just taking a cab. Private bathroom with tub and two sinks, marble entry, large closets, sitting area with table and sofa.
